๐Ÿ” Control #48: Trust Without a Resolution Is Not Governance

Why Boards Must Formally Approve Trust Decision Authority

Most organizations believe trust decisions are covered.
Very few have board-approved proof.

Ask this uncomfortable question:

โ€œCan we show a signed Board Resolution that proves who owns trust decisions?โ€

If the answer is:

  • โ€œItโ€™s impliedโ€ฆโ€
  • โ€œItโ€™s covered in multiple policiesโ€ฆโ€
  • โ€œWeโ€™ve never needed a formal resolutionโ€ฆโ€

Then trust governance exists only in intent, not in law or audit reality.

โš ๏ธ The Silent Exposure

During major trust failures, regulators donโ€™t ask:

  • Who discussed the issue?
  • Which committee debated it?
  • How many dashboards existed?

They ask one thing:

โ€œWhere is the Board resolution approving the decision authority?โ€

No resolution = no protection.

โœ… The WDTD Control Test

Control #48 validates one thing only:

Has the Board formally approved and documented
the Trust Decision Authority framework?

Not assumed.
Not implied.
Resolved. Signed. Defensible.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ What โ€œTrust by Designโ€ Requires

With a Board-approved Trust Decision Authority Resolution, organizations ensure:

  • Trust authority survives leadership change
  • Decisions are enforceable, not negotiable
  • Crisis actions are legally defensible
  • Audits end quickly
  • Regulators see intent backed by action

Trust moves from discussion to governance law.

๐Ÿ“‰ Why This Is Urgent Now

AI decisions.
Vendor dependencies.
Cyber incidents.
Cross-border regulations.

All require speed + authority + proof.

Without Control #48, every trust incident becomes a board-level liability.

๐Ÿ“ฅ Take Action

Adopt the WDTD Board Resolution approving Trust Decision Authority
and close one of the most overlooked governance gaps.

๐Ÿ”— If trust matters, the Board must resolve it.
